Mar 18, 2010 St. Augustine, FL - In a bizarre incident folksinger, Arlo Guthrie his family and crew found themselves face to face with almost certain ... lunch. The tour stopped at the world famous "Alligator Farm" traveling through St. Augustine. Mr. Guthrie had previously visited the historic site three decades ago and received an honorary 'lifetime pass' for himself and family. But, that was when the Guthries were still a young family, two adults and four children. This time they numbered about twenty.

Fearing that the family would thereafter return in even greater numbers, like the white herons that come back every year in ever increasing numbers, Alligator Farm officials decided on a plan to terminate the pass while appearing to faithfully honor it. They invited Guthrie (his pass in his pocket) into the alligator enclosure. As the hungry alligators began lurching from the water heading for the folksinger, family members witnessed the most amazing thing.

The folksinger took out a harmonica and began playing songs about luggage. The gators were apparently smart enough to get the message and stopped their advance. In the end Guthrie made friends with several of the reptiles. 'Fluffy' who had just moments before headed the charge now became docile enough for the folksinger to saddle up and ride around the enclosure, this time playing songs about cattle, which the gators apparently enjoyed.
